Air New Zealand launches ‘SaleAway’ fares from A$285 to reignite corporate trans-Tasman travel
Air New Zealand has kicked off a five-day ‘SaleAway to NZ’ promotion, dropping one-way trans-Tasman fares to as low as A$285 for travel through August 2027. The 15 September sale covers 20 New Zealand destinations from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart and—significantly—the new Western Sydney International Airport, which opens next month. Lead fares include Brisbane–Wellington from A$285, Sydney–Christchurch from A$299 and Western Sydney–Auckland from A$302. The carrier says the campaign is timed to lock in corporate and MICE traffic for 2027 events such as Wellington’s CubaDupa festival and Christchurch’s Electric Avenue. For Australian businesses the extended booking window is a chance to lock in lower TMC budgets at a time when short-haul airfares remain 18 per cent above 2019 averages. Travel managers can also leverage the fare drop to shift more traffic onto Air New Zealand’s expanding Winter 2026/27 schedule, which includes additional Queenstown services aimed at the ski market. The sale underscores intensifying competition on the world’s fourth-busiest international corridor. Qantas and Jetstar lifted trans-Tasman capacity by five per cent for northern winter, while newcomer Bonza is eyeing Gold Coast–Auckland flights in 2027. Analysts say sustained discounting could soften air-fare inflation that has dented Australian outbound business travel since borders reopened. Mobility teams should note that Smartraveller still requires Australians to complete New Zealand’s digital Traveller Declaration before arrival. Companies booking ahead will need to keep an eye on evolving NZTD processes and planned biometrics trials at Auckland and Wellington airports in 2027.
