Cyprus Public Transport (CPT) has issued an announcement advising passengers that inter-urban Route 73 will be diverted in both directions from 15:00 on Saturday, 19 September until late evening on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The temporary change is required to accommodate a large local festival in the village of Palaiometocho, northwest of Nicosia, where several central streets will be closed to traffic. During the closure, buses towards Kokkinotrimithia will start from the open area opposite the Civic Restaurant on Georgiou Griva Digeni Street and then re-join their normal path on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue. Services heading back to Palaiometocho will terminate at the same temporary stop. CPT says frequencies remain unchanged but minor delays are possible due to congestion on alternative roads. Route 73 is an important link for employees of foreign-owned logistics firms clustered around the Nicosia Industrial Zone as well as for commuters travelling from the rapidly growing residential suburbs west of the capital. Employers that provide mobility allowances are being urged to circulate the detour information and, where necessary, arrange adjusted shift start times or alternative shuttle options. The detour underscores the broader challenge of balancing Cyprus’ vibrant local events calendar with reliable public transport for a workforce that increasingly relies on buses rather than private cars, especially amid new green-mobility incentives. CPT has encouraged passengers to use its Pame App for live tracking and to subscribe to push notifications for future route alerts. Normal routing is expected to resume with the first Monday service on 21 September, and CPT has confirmed that any further changes will be posted at least 24 hours in advance on its website and social-media channels.
