With the Mainland’s Mid-Autumn Festival falling from 25 to 27 September, Hong Kong’s Transport Department (TD) issued an alert late on 22 September warning that passenger and vehicle volumes at land control points will “significantly increase”, especially on Sunday evening when outbound traffic traditionally peaks. The agency is beefing up services across rail, road and sea corridors. East Rail Line frequency between Admiralty and Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau will be stepped up, and additional Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link services— including overnight sleeper trains to Beijing—will run from 23 to 27 September. Shuttle-bus headways on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be trimmed to one minute, while the Lok Ma Chau–Huanggang ‘Yellow Bus’ will operate every two minutes during peaks. Extra coach quotas and franchised-bus capacity have also been authorised. Motorists were cautioned that special traffic diversions could be imposed at Lok Ma Chau and Shenzhen Bay if queues spill back onto highways. The TD’s HK eMobility app now streams real-time CCTV images of border-plaza traffic, and travellers can check Zhuhai port congestion via WeChat feeds. The notice advises cross-border private-car permit holders to avoid the late-afternoon surge and reminds passengers to pre-book coach tickets. Emergency Transport Coordination Centre staff will monitor conditions 24×7 and push alerts through radio and digital channels. For corporates moving staff between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area for factory visits or client meetings, the practical takeaway is to schedule departures outside Friday evening and Sunday night peaks, allow ample buffer time, and ensure drivers are briefed on potential lane closures.
