To help residents and visitors navigate what is shaping up to be the busiest National Day Golden Week since 2019, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) announced on 23 September that its one-stop ‘Discover Hong Kong’ platform will feature a dedicated microsite aggregating real-time data on crowd levels, attraction wait-times, boundary-crossing status and weather alerts. Built in partnership with the Security Bureau’s ‘Easy Boundary’ system and the Hong Kong Observatory, the portal will update average waiting times at Lo Wu, Shenzhen Bay, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and airport immigration halls every five minutes. Live dashboards will also display the frequency of Gold Bus and Yellow Bus services and the availability of cross-boundary coach tickets. Major attractions—including Ocean Park, Hong Kong Disneyland, the Peak Tram and Ngong Ping 360—have agreed to share gate counts so travellers can choose less crowded times. Retail districts such as Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui will pilot Bluetooth-beacon footfall tracking, giving shop owners and police early warning of congestion. HKTB executive director Dane Cheng said the initiative aims to convert “volume into value” by spreading visitors more evenly across districts and encouraging longer stays. Travel-tech startups have been invited to link their itinerary-planning tools to the HKTB API, opening opportunities for value-added services such as AI-driven route optimisation for tour operators. For global-mobility professionals, the new portal offers a single window to brief relocating staff and business visitors on real-time border and transport conditions—critical intelligence that can reduce delays, improve duty-of-care compliance and enhance traveller satisfaction.
