With the Mid-Autumn long weekend coinciding with the mainland’s National Day build-up, Hong Kong’s Transport Department issued a notice on 22 September advising private motorists and coach operators to book slots early for the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB). The department expects heavier traffic at the bridge and Shenzhen Bay Port from 28 September to 2 October. To ease congestion, real-time CCTV feeds of customs plazas are available on the “HKeMobility” app, while mainland authorities host a sister platform for the Zhuhai side. On peak days, the Bridge Shuttle Bus will increase frequency to every 5–10 minutes, and toll waivers for electronic payment users will remain in place. Failure to reserve a northbound travel slot could lead to denied entry and on-the-spot fines. Logistics providers moving time-sensitive goods—such as chilled seafood or medical supplies—are advised to factor in an extra two hours’ transit buffer. The advisory also reminds travellers that cross-boundary private-car insurance must cover all three jurisdictions (Hong Kong, Zhuhai, Macao) and that no-show bookings may be suspended for 30 days. Taxi associations have been asked to brief drivers on alternative routes via Lok Ma Chau Spur Line should the bridge become saturated. The Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally one of Hong Kong’s busiest outbound periods, and this year’s overlap with Golden Week is expected to create the greatest traffic surge since the bridge opened in 2018.
