South China’s technology capital has posted its strongest holiday numbers since borders fully reopened. Shenzhen Border Inspection said it processed 2.9 million travellers from 25 to 27 September—35 percent more than last year’s Mid-Autumn break and equivalent to 96 000 passengers an hour at its eight land and sea checkpoints. Volume records tumbled: the city handled over 6 million inbound travellers in a single hour on 25 September and 1.05 million total crossings on 26 September, the highest since pre-pandemic 2019. Transport assets were similarly stretched, with 100 000 vehicles, ferries, aircraft and trains cleared over the period. Land terminals at Luohu, Futian and Shenzhen Bay led the surge, each surpassing 20 000 daily users as residents took advantage of newly reinstated multiple-entry permits for Hong Kong shopping trips. Authorities responded by activating “full-capability mode”—all counters staffed, mobile kiosks deployed, and dedicated lanes for e-Permit holders and registered frequent-traveller companies. A joint command centre with Hong Kong Immigration monitored real-time flows and could switch passenger lanes at West Kowloon high-speed-rail terminus within two minutes if queues built up. With the seven-day National Day holiday looming, Shenzhen expects daily volumes to exceed 1.2 million. Corporate mobility teams are urged to brief staff on electronic health declaration requirements (still mandatory for some ferry routes), check that multiple-entry Home Return Permits have at least one blank exit endorsement, and use the city’s “iPort” WeChat mini-program to choose the least-crowded checkpoint. The municipal Port Office also warned logistics providers moving time-critical components through Shenzhen Airport to file manifests 24 hours in advance and consider overnight trucking via the Pearl River Delta should apron slots tighten.
