Zhuhai immigration authorities said Hengqin Port processed 390,000 passenger journeys and 38,000 vehicle movements between 1 and 3 October—up 19 percent year-on-year—thanks to a hardware expansion that went live on 30 September. Fifty-two new lanes lifted the hall’s total to 113 and boosted overall capacity by 65 percent. The surge reflects growing “one-trip, two-cities” itineraries that bundle Macau resorts with Zhuhai theme parks. Mainland tourists made 85,000 outbound trips to Macau via Hengqin in the three-day window, while 10,600 Macau residents used the port to shop or attend concerts in Guangdong. Graduate students at Macau University say average queuing time fell from 45 to 15 minutes. For mobility managers, Hengqin’s throughput makes it an increasingly attractive alternative to Macau’s Gongbei gate, historically prone to congestion. Companies with staff shuttling between Cotai conference venues and Hengqin science parks should adjust pick-up schedules; customs brokers add that the new “commercial-goods green channel” will be piloted later this month, allowing sealed trucks to clear both sides under RFID tracking. Authorities warn that traffic will remain heavy on 4–5 October and advise travellers to stagger departures.
