Charleroi Airport confirms flights will operate during 9 & 12 October national demonstrations
Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA) moved quickly on 7 October to reassure passengers that industrial action planned by Belgium’s two largest trade-union confederations on 9 and 12 October will not ground flights. In a statement posted on its website the airport said that “all scheduled departing and arriving flights will operate as planned”. The announcement comes amid growing concern from business travellers about nationwide protests against the Federal Government’s draft 2027 budget. Previous demonstrations have paralysed public transport in and around Brussels and caused significant knock-on effects for connecting flights. While BSCA expects no interruptions to air traffic, it cautions that road congestion and public-transport disruptions—particularly on the TEC shuttle between Charleroi-Central rail station and the airport—are likely. For companies that use Charleroi as a low-cost hub for short-haul European meetings, the advice is to build in extra journey time and to monitor shuttle schedules closely. Relocation specialists also recommend arranging guaranteed car services for assignees travelling with time-sensitive immigration documents, as missing a biometric-capture appointment at the Belgian Immigration Office can trigger costly delays. The clarification from BSCA is welcome news for airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air that rely on tight aircraft rotations. By avoiding cancellations they protect slot usage and spare corporate travel managers the administrative headache of re-booking staff at the last minute. Nevertheless, HR teams should alert travelling employees that security-staff shortages or protest-related roadblocks could lengthen door-to-gate times by an hour or more.
