On 9 October 2026 BMEIA re-dated its Central African Republic (CAR) advisory, keeping a full country Reisewarnung (Security Level 4) in force but adding a prominent box on the current Ebola outbreak in the wider Central Africa region. Travellers who must enter CAR—typically aid workers and mining-sector staff—are urged to monitor potential onward-travel restrictions and observe strict infection-control measures. The ministry outlines preventive steps such as avoiding contact with sick individuals and refraining from consuming bush-meat. It references the IATA Travel Centre for up-to-date airline restrictions, signalling that last-minute route changes are possible. Given the total absence of Austrian consular facilities in Bangui (services are covered from Nigeria), companies are reminded that evacuation options are extremely limited. Insurance carriers may invoke exclusion clauses, and BMEIA reserves the right to recover repatriation costs from travellers ignoring the warning. For global mobility teams, the update serves as a reminder to review CAR assignments under a “life-safety first” doctrine and to activate enhanced medical screening for any regional staff transiting through neighbouring hubs such as Douala or Nairobi.
