Newfoundland and Labrador issued 41 provincial immigration invitations on 25 September and publicly disclosed the results on 9 October 2026. The province has now conducted 16 selection rounds this year, bringing its 2026 invitation tally to 2,695—2,300 through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and 395 via the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). Unlike previous draws, the latest round did not include AIP endorsements and the government released no occupational breakdown. Local recruiters say many invitations went to software developers and maritime engineers supporting offshore wind projects announced this summer. Provincial officials have hinted that future draws will prioritise francophone applicants and health professionals, aligning with Ottawa’s broader Francophone Immigration Support Program funding announced 29 September. For employers, a provincial nomination remains critical because NLPNP work-permit processing can shave six months off federal timelines. Candidates have 60 days to submit full documentation and must demonstrate sufficient settlement funds for a province with the country’s highest consumer-price inflation. The province is also lobbying IRCC for 300 extra nomination spaces for 2027 to mitigate projected labour shortages in construction and elder care as multiple mega-projects enter the build phase.
