Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) has issued an ‘Important Notice’ confirming that the Burgh Quay Registration Office in Dublin will be closed to the public on Wednesday 14 October because of planned public-sector industrial action. The office handles first-time GNIB card registrations and renewals for thousands of non-EEA residents each month. ISD says all in-person appointments scheduled for that date will be automatically cancelled and must be re-booked through its online portal. Applicants facing imminent travel should email the emergency address supplied in their appointment confirmation to request an expedited slot. The closure falls less than three weeks after ISD rolled out multi-factor authentication for its customer portal, which has already lengthened log-in times. Employers should therefore advise international assignees and students to secure alternative dates quickly, as autumn is peak renewal season for academic and tech-sector hires. Failure to register on time can invalidate work permission and, in turn, payroll tax treatment under the Special Assignee Relief Programme (SARP). HR teams should keep evidence of the cancellation notice on file to defend against any future compliance audit. While ISD has not announced contingency staffing, past closures have produced appointment backlogs of up to four weeks. Mobility providers may need to escalate urgent cases through consular or ministerial channels if re-booking proves impossible.
