Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, set to welcome its first passengers on 25 October 2026, has confirmed the initial retail line-up that will greet travellers. Travel retailer Lagardère AWPL will operate 11 stores covering duty-free, travel essentials (RELAY), eyewear (Eye Love) and tech gadgets (Tech2Go), spanning 3,100 m² of terminal space. The early focus is on convenience and premium duty-free shopping, with future phases expected to add local food and beverage concepts that showcase Western Sydney’s multicultural community. Airport CEO Simon Hickey hailed the announcement as “another milestone proving the terminal is passenger-ready.” For mobility planners, the news offers a glimpse of passenger experience at Australia’s first major greenfield airport in decades. The facility sits within the new Aerotropolis economic zone and is expected to ease pressure on Sydney Kingsford-Smith, particularly for freight and low-cost long-haul traffic. Ground transport connections include the driverless Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line opening in 2027; until then, dedicated express buses and expanded road links will serve the site. Businesses with fly-in-fly-out workforces in Western Sydney may soon shift routings to take advantage of shorter surface-travel times.
