An Garda Síochána has launched a two-day security operation around Dublin Castle as Ireland hosts an informal meeting of EU Education Ministers on 15–16 October 2026. According to a Garda press notice, streets such as Castle Street and Ship Street will remain sealed until 31 December as part of a broader Presidency-year security perimeter. For business travellers, the bigger disruption is a series of Garda motorcycle escorts scheduled between Dublin Airport, Charlemont Place and Dublin Castle at peak commuting hours. Rolling closures are in effect from 17:45–19:15 on Thursday evening and 08:15–09:00 on Friday morning, potentially delaying taxi transfers and air-crew positioning runs. Dublin Airport itself will “operate normally,” the Gardaí emphasise, but travellers are urged to allow extra time and monitor @gardatraffic for real-time updates. Drone operators should also note temporary restricted airspace around both venue clusters. Event security falls under Ireland’s EU Council Presidency remit, and similar ministerial meetings are slated for Cork and Galway later this quarter. Mobility teams with VIP movements or high-value cargo transits through Dublin city centre during these windows should pre-book alternative routes. Local hotels have reported occupancy rates above 95 per cent; corporate travel buyers seeking last-minute rooms may need to consider locations outside the M50 and arrange chauffeur services to avoid the inner-city cordon.
