Bus Éireann has alerted passengers that its flagship Expressway Route 23 service from Sligo (01:00 departure) to Dublin Airport is running approximately twenty minutes late this morning, Saturday 17 October. The delay is caused by overnight resurfacing on the R132 near Swords, the final approach road to the airport terminals. Drivers have been instructed to divert via Forest Road, adding 14 kilometres to the route. Route 23 carries significant volumes of offshore energy and med-tech personnel who connect at Dublin for onward flights to Aberdeen, London and continental hubs. A Bus Éireann spokesperson said contactless ticket holders are automatically protected on later services in the event of a missed flight, but urged travellers to check live updates and allow additional buffer time. The temporary traffic management on the R132 is scheduled to finish by 06:00 on Monday, yet contractors warned that poor weather could extend works. During the closure, Dublin Airport’s self-parking coach stand has been moved to Zone 17 in the short-term car park; way-finding signs are in place. Travel managers with multinational clients in the north-west have circulated the alert through internal mobility newsletters, reminding employees that the 03:00 and 05:15 departures are operating normally. Companies running ‘fly-in fly-out’ rosters for data-centre maintenance teams have been advised to consider the Irish Rail early-morning train from Sligo if delays persist. Bus Éireann apologised for the inconvenience and said it would issue a further bulletin if the diversion remains in place beyond Sunday.
