The Atlantic province of Newfoundland and Labrador invited 126 skilled-worker and international-graduate candidates to apply for a provincial nomination on October 16, with the results released publicly on October 20. Of the total, 125 invitations were issued under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and one under the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP). The province’s Expression of Interest system ranks candidates against published criteria that prioritise occupations in health care, technology and rural communities. Successful applicants have 30 days to submit full documentation; a provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points if the candidate later enters the federal Express Entry pool. Year-to-date, Newfoundland and Labrador has issued 2,952 invitations—surpassing 2025’s annual total with more than two months left in the year. Officials attribute the acceleration to persistent labour gaps in nursing, construction and aquaculture, sectors that have struggled to recruit locally. For employers, the draw offers a chance to regularise critical staff already on work permits. Immigration advisors recommend starting credential recognition early—especially for regulated health occupations—because provincial bodies can take months to process applications.
