Bus Éireann’s service-updates portal shows a cascade of cancellations on key commuter corridors into Dublin on 21 October. Routes 101/101X (Drogheda–Dublin), 109 (Mater Hospital–Kells) and 115 (Dublin–Enfield) all saw peak-hour runs scrapped, with additional delays on the 11:00 Dublin Airport–Wexford express. The operator blames a combination of driver shortages, ongoing roadworks on the R132 in Swords, and preparatory diversions for the forthcoming Dublin City Marathon. The cancellations have immediate mobility implications for foreign assignees living in commuter towns and relying on public transport to reach Dublin offices or Dublin Airport. Employers have been advised to permit remote work or subsidise alternative transport for affected staff. Global relocation firms note that repeated disruptions are eroding the attractiveness of out-of-city housing options, potentially inflating rental pressure inside the M50. From a compliance perspective, missed airport buses could jeopardise travellers’ minimum-connection times for work trips, raising the spectre of no-show fees and re-ticketing costs. Travel managers are therefore recommending taxi vouchers until normal timetables stabilise. Bus Éireann says it “regrets any inconvenience” and urges passengers to consult the TFI Live app for real-time updates. The company is reallocating spare vehicles but concedes that intermittent cancellations may continue through Friday as Storm Austen complicates driver rosters. For mobility professionals, the message is prudent redundancy: maintain backup ground-transport options and keep impacted employees informed via duty-of-care platforms.
