With 25,000 runners set to hit the streets on Sunday, 25 October, Bus Éireann has published a marathon-weekend traffic plan that will shift multiple services—including airport coaches—off their normal city-centre alignments from 10:00 Friday until 14:00 Monday. Key routes will divert via the Eastlink Toll Bridge and Port Tunnel, bypassing closed quays and St Stephen’s Green. The detours affect Route 2 (Wexford), Expressway services to Galway and Limerick, and several commuter lines feeding Dublin Airport. Passengers should expect longer journey times and altered stops; operators advise using real-time apps to track temporary pick-up points. For inbound business travellers, the marathon coincides with Ireland’s bank-holiday crush, compounding congestion. Travel managers should pre-book taxis with marathon-accredited access or build extra time into airport transfers. Relocating assignees scheduled to house-hunt in Dublin over the weekend may wish to postpone viewings until Tuesday. The marathon’s economic impact is estimated at €45 million, but the upside for mobility teams is limited to potential team-building opportunities. From a compliance angle, employers must ensure duty-of-care obligations are met for employees required to travel through affected zones during the closures. Bus Éireann emphasises that full normal service will resume by late Monday afternoon once race infrastructure is cleared.
