Finland’s Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) issued a notice at 08:00 EET on 30 October 2026 advising users of its ‘Oma asiointi’ e-service portal that driving-licence, tachograph-card and maritime-certificate applications will be unavailable on Sunday 1 November between 08:00 and 12:00 local time due to system maintenance. During the four-hour window applicants will be unable to submit, pay for or download interim electronic licences. Traficom stresses that existing digital licences stored in the Suomi.fi mobile wallet will remain valid, but new applicants—including many recently arrived foreign residents who need a Finnish permit to drive or serve at sea—should plan around the outage. The maintenance also affects employer checks of professional-driver tachograph cards, a step required before commercial vehicles can be dispatched. For global mobility teams the disruption could delay assignees scheduled to start work early next week, particularly those in logistics, ride-hailing, cruise and offshore sectors that rely on immediate proof of competence. Employers are advised to pre-verify that foreign-issued licences qualify for exchange under EU reciprocity rules and to print existing interim certificates before the downtime begins. Traficom says normal service will resume at noon, but warns that processing queues may be longer than usual on Monday as back-logged requests clear the system. The agency’s notice is the latest reminder that Finland’s shift to digital credentials—driver documents, seafarer endorsements and soon digital national ID cards—makes service-availability planning an essential part of relocation timelines. Mobility advisers should monitor Traficom’s newsfeed and build contingency measures, such as notarised copies, into onboarding checklists.
