Trenitalia Tper adds 117 regional trains and 70,000 seats for Easter and spring ‘bridge’ weekends
With roads expected to be congested and airlines dealing with fuel-rationing alerts, rail operator Trenitalia Tper has stepped in to bolster capacity across Emilia-Romagna. On 3 April the company confirmed an additional 117 services—equivalent to more than 70,000 extra seats—between 28 March and 2 June. Most of the reinforcement is aimed at leisure corridors: Bologna–Rimini, Rimini–Riccione–Cattolica along the Adriatic coast and the Via Emilia spine linking Bologna, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Parma and Piacenza (with some extensions to Milan). The Bologna–Prato line will also see extra trains to accommodate Florentine day-trippers and commuters. Each consist offers bicycle racks, luggage space and charging points for e-bikes, matching the region’s push for low-carbon tourism. More than 30 on-board and station staff will be deployed daily to manage the surge. Trenitalia says over a third of its regional ridership now travels for leisure, underlining rail’s growing role in domestic mobility strategies. For corporate relocation teams, the message is clear: regional rail remains a reliable fallback when short-haul flights face disruption and rental-car costs soar with fuel prices. Employers with commuters based between Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy can leverage the extra frequency to keep assignments on schedule over the long holiday stretch.
