All 600 commemorative seats sold out within hours of release. The flights are the centre-piece of a three-day festival that begins with a ceremony at Lufthansa’s historic founding site in Berlin and concludes with the unveiling of a new visitor centre at Frankfurt Airport. Passengers on the retro-themed services will receive replica 1926 boarding passes, period-style in-flight meals and a guided tour of a static Fokker F II – the aircraft used on the original route. While primarily a branding exercise, the event has operational implications. Both flights use berth slots at Berlin that would normally be occupied by scheduled services, and ground-handling teams at Zurich and Cologne have issued NOTAMs warning of brief apron congestion. Travellers booked on neighbouring departures should expect minor delays around the 15:00 CEST take-off window. For mobility managers the anniversary offers a customer-relations opportunity. Corporates with large travel volumes can leverage the PR push to negotiate refreshed volume-discount agreements ahead of the summer schedule, which adds 1,600 extra holiday flights from German hubs. Beyond the festivities, analysts note that Lufthansa remains under cost pressure after last winter’s strikes and faces intense scrutiny as it integrates newly delivered A350s into a still-lean pilot roster.
