Outsourced visa provider VFS Global confirmed on 6 May 2026 that its new smartphone application is live for travellers applying for Polish Schengen visas in 21 non-EU countries. The app mirrors the existing web portal but adds OCR scanning of passport data and NFC reading of biometric chips, allowing users to pre-populate forms before arriving at a visa centre. Applicants can now search for appointment slots, upload passport images and receive push notifications when schedules open—features long requested by travel managers who struggle with chronic slot shortages in cities such as Minsk, Delhi and Manila. The company emphasises that the official VFS Global app is free; it warns users to avoid third-party ‘bots’ that sell appointments. Poland’s foreign ministry has not amended documentation check-lists, yet practitioners expect Warsaw to begin insisting on the electronic payment receipt generated by the app as proof of appointment. If so, employers will need to align travel-approval workflows and verify that staff download the correct application from Google Play or Apple’s App Store. The launch follows similar mobile tools deployed by France and Italy last year, indicating that Schengen outsourcing is moving rapidly into the mobile space. For global-mobility teams the upgrade promises easier tracking of large group bookings—especially important during seasonal worker peaks—but also raises data-protection questions that must be addressed in vendor contracts.
