DXB targets 85 % operational recovery as passenger flights and routes ramp up
Speaking on Dubai Eye’s Business Breakfast on 16 June 2026, Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said Dubai International Airport (DXB) is on course to reach 80-85 per cent of its pre-conflict operating capacity by year-end, with a full return to the 100 million-passenger mark forecast for 2027. Daily aircraft movements have already climbed from 541 in May to more than 650, and the network now covers 205 destinations, with 35 more expected to come online in the next few months.

Travellers eager to take advantage of DXB’s expanding route map can streamline their visa requirements through VisaHQ, which provides fast online processing for UAE entry permits and dozens of other destinations (https://www.visahq.com/united-arab-emirates/). The platform’s real-time tracking and dedicated support allow corporate mobility teams to coordinate documentation effortlessly with the airport’s resurgent flight schedules.

DXB’s expansion comes after months of disruption caused by missile and drone threats linked to regional hostilities. Enhanced air-defence integration with UAE armed forces and new insurance arrangements have convinced several foreign carriers to resume operations. Cargo throughput has rebounded even faster, now standing at roughly 75 per cent of pre-crisis tonnage, driven by e-commerce, pharmaceuticals and relief-aid logistics. For corporate travel managers, the restoration of routes means fewer forced detours via Doha or Riyadh and lower total-trip costs. Seat-capacity growth is already exerting downward pressure on premium cabin fares, which had spiked 40-60 per cent during the peak of the security crisis. The airport operator is also accelerating biometric-enabled smart-gate deployments, targeting a 20-minute ‘curb-to-gate’ benchmark for transfer passengers. Griffiths cautioned that full recovery depends on “foreign-airline confidence” and the timely reopening of over-flight corridors closed during the conflict. Negotiations with insurers to recalibrate war-risk premiums are ongoing; success would free up additional wide-body capacity for high-volume routes to India, the UK and Australia. The outlook is broadly positive for mobility professionals: more flight options, shorter journeys and the gradual normalisation of corporate‐travel budgets. However, companies should monitor schedule volatility in case of renewed geopolitical flare-ups and maintain contingency routings via Abu Dhabi or Muscat.
