China Eastern Unveils 2026 International Route Map, Adding 12 New Cities
In the early hours of 26 June 2026 (HKT) China Eastern Airlines released its most ambitious international expansion plan since the pandemic, outlining 12 new routes, multiple resumptions and frequency boosts across Europe, South Asia and Oceania. Highlights include a March launch of Shanghai Pudong–Tashkent, an April Xi’an–Vienna service and a seasonal Shanghai Pudong–Adelaide flight running 20 June–2 August.

To ensure employees and leisure travelers can navigate the visa requirements of these freshly announced city-pairs, global mobility managers may find it useful to engage VisaHQ. The platform’s China portal (https://www.visahq.com/china/) centralizes up-to-date entry regulations, consular lead times and document checklists for more than 200 jurisdictions, streamlining the paperwork before seats are even booked.

The carrier will also inaugurate links from Shanghai to Mumbai, Dublin, Cheongju, Manado, Surabaya, Tbilisi, Ulaanbaatar and Muscat, while beefing up frequencies to Copenhagen, London Gatwick, Frankfurt, Barcelona and Venice. Capacity on Australia-New Zealand routes will likewise rise, with additional Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane rotations. For corporate mobility teams the announcement means greater seat inventory during the 2026 summer-autumn scheduling window, improved one-stop connectivity to Western China via Xi’an, and fresh city-pair options that bypass the congested Beijing/Shanghai gateways. Trade-dependent provinces such as Zhejiang and Jiangsu stand to benefit from shorter door-to-door times for technical support visits and expatriate family trips. China Eastern said it is conducting feasibility studies on further destinations including Prague, Belgrade and Birmingham, hinting at continued liberalisation of its bilateral traffic rights. Travel buyers should monitor fare filings from July as introductory promotional pricing is expected on the new sectors. Slot approvals will be finalised in the Civil Aviation Administration of China’s (CAAC) winter timetable bulletin, traditionally published in late August.
