DXB braces for 3 million passengers in first half of July
Dubai International Airport (DXB) expects more than three million travellers between 2 and 15 July as schools break for the summer. The airport operator said daily throughput will exceed 200 000 passengers, peaking at an estimated 225 000 on 12 July. Transfer passengers will make up roughly half the total, underscoring Dubai’s role as the world’s busiest international hub. To cope, DXB has activated a summer readiness plan with oneDXB partners, advising travellers to arrive no earlier than three hours before departure, use online check-in and, if eligible, the Smart Gates. Emirates has extended home and city check-in hours, while flydubai recommends online seat assignment to reduce counters congestion.

Travellers who still need visas for the United Arab Emirates can streamline paperwork well before reaching the check-in desk. Families with children over 12 can clear immigration in seconds through automated gates, but power banks must stay in carry-ons following a global uptick in battery fires. Peak-season staffing is critical for corporate travel managers sending employees through DXB. Longer security queues can erode buffer time for onward connections; the airport recommends a minimum 90-minute transfer window. Passengers requiring special assistance can pre-book support under the Sunflower Lanyard scheme, which has dedicated routes and an Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2. In 2025 DXB handled a record 95.2 million passengers. The traffic surge precedes the government’s USD 35 billion expansion of Al Maktoum International (DWC), which will eventually accommodate 260 million travellers per year.
