Government departments, Garda Headquarters and the US Secret Service have opened preliminary planning for a visit by US President Donald Trump to Ireland in September, The Irish Times reported on 4 July. The trip is expected to include attendance at the Irish Open golf tournament at Doonbeg in Co Clare—Trump’s own resort—and official engagements in Dublin. While final dates are unconfirmed, aviation sources say US Air Force advance teams have already requested slots at Shannon Airport. Hoteliers in Dublin report block bookings for the first two weeks of September, and the Department of Transport has alerted Dublin Airport to prepare for possible temporary air-space restrictions similar to those imposed during President Biden’s 2023 visit. Corporate-travel managers are being urged to monitor Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) and to avoid scheduling critical in-person meetings in central Dublin on likely motorcade routes. During previous presidential trips, rolling street closures and enhanced security zones resulted in delays of up to two hours for cross-city journeys. Immigration practitioners also note that surge demand for US pre-clearance appointments could affect transatlantic business travellers in the run-up to the visit. The US Embassy in Dublin says it will add staffing if required but advises applicants to secure interview slots well in advance.
