Czechia releases July quotas for its ‘Qualified Employee’ fast-track work-visa scheme
The Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO) quietly pressed the ‘refresh’ button on its most popular economic-migration scheme at 09:00 on 8 July 2026. In a ten-minute system update, officials injected a total of 1,744 new slots into the online portal that generates the unique codes foreign nationals need to apply for work visas under the ‘Program kvalifikovaný zaměstnanec’ (Qualified Employee Programme). The extra capacity is spread across ten source countries, with the Philippines (858 places) and Mongolia (264) again topping the list, followed by Serbia & Montenegro (158) and Moldova (125).

Smaller allotments were released for India, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia, North Macedonia and Thailand.

If the maze of forms and deadlines feels daunting, VisaHQ can smooth the process: the company’s portal tracks current Czech requirements, pre-screens paperwork and helps applicants secure consular appointments—saving both employers and prospective employees valuable time.

Belarus remains excluded because Prague suspended all visa processing for Belarusian nationals in 2025. For employers, the monthly “click-fest” remains the quickest way to bring in assembly-line staff, welders and IT testers, but demand far outstrips supply; analysts at the Czech Chamber of Commerce estimate that July’s batch will be snapped up in under three minutes once the temporary 10:00 unlock removes anti-bot protections. Since the programme’s launch in 2016, more than 120,000 foreign workers have entered the Czech labour market through the scheme, filling gaps in manufacturing, logistics and health care. The July release comes as unemployment sits at just 2.3 percent and vacancy numbers hover around 270,000. Human-resources directors say that, without predictable monthly quotas, production lines in the automotive corridor stretching from Prague to Ostrava would be unable to meet export orders. Yet trade unions worry that rising dependence on third-country labour is masking structural shortages in vocational training. Practical take-away: companies that miss the July window will have to wait until the next scheduled quota drop—most likely in early August—and should make sure their HR staff have refreshed login credentials and power of attorney letters ready before 10:00. Applicants must still book a biometric appointment at the relevant Czech consulate within 60 days, so early coordination remains critical.
