Piyush Goyal leads 50-member delegation to Spain, Belgium and Finland to scout trade and tech deals
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal left New Delhi this morning on a five-day swing through Madrid, Brussels and Helsinki, heading a 50-strong delegation of CEOs from sectors as diverse as electronics, clean energy and tourism. According to a Press Information Bureau brief issued late on 12 July, the mission will explore joint ventures in semiconductors, offshore wind and high-speed rail, and will pitch India’s new ‘Work-from-India’ visa to European digital-nomad platforms. For global mobility teams the trip matters because it is expected to fast-track bilateral social-security agreements (SSAs) with Spain and Finland, reducing double payroll deductions for Indian staff on short-term assignments.

Companies that need quick, reliable assistance navigating Schengen business visas, emerging digital-nomad permits or India’s own Work-from-India visa can turn to VisaHQ’s India portal. The platform streamlines document submission, tracks application status in real time and offers expert guidance—making it easier for HR and mobility managers to keep assignments on schedule while governments iron out new SSA and fast-track visa frameworks.

India already has SSAs with 21 EU states; adding two more would simplify postings in Europe’s high-tech manufacturing belt. The schedule includes a business round-table at Madrid’s CEOE headquarters today, followed by a ‘Make in India-for-Europe’ investor roadshow in Brussels on 15 July and meetings with Nokia’s global mobility leadership in Helsinki on the 16th. Industry insiders say discussions may also touch on reciprocal fast-track visas for engineers—a long-standing demand from Indian IT giants. Spanish tourism operators are keen to leverage the new India-Spain Dual Year 2026 celebrations, which could see charter flights from Delhi to Malaga. Airlines have already sought temporary traffic rights, signalling more seat capacity for business travellers. Companies planning executive travel to Europe should watch for announcements on mutual recognition of professional qualifications and any pilot projects on single-window work permits. While concrete policy changes will take months, the minister’s trip puts mobility issues squarely on the trade agenda.
