Commuter traffic in Rome’s northwest was disrupted this morning after unidentified external works damaged rail infrastructure near Vigna Clara station. RFI suspended services on the recently reopened Rome San Pietro – Vigna Clara line at 10:40, citing safety concerns. Engineers are inspecting overhead lines and ballast stability; the incident is not attributable to RFI and may involve third-party construction activity. A temporary bus shuttle now connects Vigna Clara with Valle Aurelia (Metro A) and Rome San Pietro every 20 minutes. The interruption particularly affects Vatican-area commuters and business travellers heading to northern suburbs such as Farnesina and Foro Italico. The S. Pietro–Vigna Clara link, reopened in 2024 ahead of the Jubilee 2025 mobility plan, is an important bypass during ongoing Metro C works. Any prolonged closure could add pressure on bus route 490 and ring-road traffic. Companies scheduling meetings in the Prati district today should allow extra travel time or switch to taxi services. RFI will issue a new bulletin once structural assessments are completed.
