Rail commuters and holiday-makers along the Bay of Naples faced major disruption today after a brush fire damaged power and signalling equipment between Torre Annunziata Centrale and Castellammare di Stabia. RFI reported that traffic on the Naples San Giovanni Barra – Castellammare line was suspended at 13:30 and remained blocked at the 17:00 update. The affected section serves both the Circumvesuviana tourist belt and the port area for hydrofoil connections to Capri and Sorrento. Emergency crews are working to replace melted cabling; early estimates suggest late-evening partial reopening, but full service may not resume until tomorrow. In the meantime, dedicated buses are running every 30 minutes, adding about 25 minutes to the normal 50-minute journey from Napoli Garibaldi. The disruption coincides with peak cruise-excursion season; local DMCs are re-routing groups via private coaches on the A3 motorway. Businesses with staff lodging in Sorrento or Pompeii should factor in longer transfer times to Naples Capodichino Airport. Freight customers using the adjacent intermodal yard are unaffected. RFI reminds passengers that regional rail tickets remain valid on the buses and that real-time updates are available through the Trenitalia app and station displays.
