Basel’s public-transport operator BVB announced that tram and bus services between Schifflände and Messeplatz will be suspended from roughly 14:00 to 17:00 on Friday, 17 July, to make way for the annual Basel Tattoo Parade. The procession, featuring international military bands, draws up to 100 000 spectators and necessitates closure of the city’s main east-west transit spine. BVB will run replacement bus services skirting the old town, but expects crowding and journey times 20–30 minutes longer than usual. The operator urges commuters to switch to Basel SBB main-line trains where possible, or to travel outside peak parade hours. Parking in the Kleinbasel river quarter is also restricted and likely to affect corporate visitors to exhibition venues near Messeplatz. For employers sending staff to Novartis Campus, Roche Tower or the Basel Convention Center, advance route planning is advisable. Event organisers recommend purchasing tickets for the Tattoo spectacle well in advance, as evening arena shows often sell out and spur last-minute hotel bookings that push up accommodation costs throughout the tri-border region. The parade provides a festive showcase for Basel but has caught some business travellers off-guard in previous years, leading to missed train connections and rescheduled meetings. Mobility teams should circulate BVB’s detour map and remind travellers that standard SwissPass tickets remain valid on the replacement buses.
