Schengen monitoring report gives Cyprus a positive technical score – formal Council discussion set for September

The Commission’s annual Schengen monitoring report, adopted on 15 July, rates Cyprus technically ready to join the passport-free area. EU ministers will formally discuss the document in September; unanimous Council approval is still required. If endorsed, Schengen entry would scrap routine border checks for travel between Cyprus and 29 other European countries, bringing major time savings for business travellers and obliging companies to update systems for the forthcoming Entry-Exit System and ETIAS.
