A high-level meeting at the Gdańsk headquarters of the Maritime Border Guard on 15 July set the timetable for launching Poland’s new Maritime Security Centre (CSM). The facility, mandated by amendments to the Crisis-Management Act that entered into force on 4 July, must become operational within six months. The CSM will integrate real-time data from naval, coast-guard, customs and energy-infrastructure operators to protect under-sea pipelines, offshore wind farms and key shipping lanes. Officials cited repeated GPS jamming incidents and last year’s sabotage of fibre-optic cables in the Gulf of Finland as drivers for the upgrade. Deputy Interior Minister Mariusz Cichomski told participants that the Centre will also host an information-exchange node with NATO, mirroring similar hubs in Denmark and Sweden. For multinationals moving personnel or cargo through Gdańsk, Gdynia or Świnoujście ports, the new hub promises faster incident alerts and coordinated crisis response—potentially reducing insurance premiums and shipping delays. It is also expected to streamline border-clearance procedures for cruise and offshore-crew rotations by allowing advance passenger risk-assessment similar to systems used at airports. From an investment perspective, the CSM aligns with Poland’s push to become a Baltic energy corridor. Projects such as the floating LNG terminal in Gdańsk Bay and the first Polish nuclear plant will depend on secure sea lanes and specialised foreign contractors—a factor that could increase demand for business visas and residence permits in maritime regions. The Border Guard confirmed that hiring for 120 new analyst and IT posts will start in August, with preference given to candidates holding security clearances from other EU or NATO states.
