Trenitalia strike scheduled for 23-24 July prompts corporate travel alerts
Roma Servizi per la Mobilità issued a notice on 17 July confirming a 24-hour national rail strike by personnel of the FS Group, Trenitalia, Trenord and Trenitalia Tper from 21:00 on Thursday 23 July until 21:00 on Friday 24 July. Essential regional services will run only in the legally protected windows 06:00-09:00 and 18:00-21:00. Long-distance Frecciarossa and Intercity trains face selective cancellations, and the strike overlaps with the summer tourist peak. Travel-management companies have started rerouting time-sensitive travellers onto airlines or car-hire, but capacity is constrained by concurrent ATC protests earlier in the week. Critical for assignees: urban transport in Rome and Lazio (ATAC, Cotral) is not affected, reducing last-mile disruption for commuters who can reach the capital by alternative means. Employers should distribute the list of guaranteed trains—now live on Trenitalia’s website—and pre-authorise taxi use where no service is available. The action comes amid wage-indexation negotiations and debates over night-shift staffing linked to maintenance of new ETR1000 rolling stock. Analysts warn that further rail stoppages may coincide with the August “Ferragosto” exodus, complicating repatriation of expatriate staff taking home leave.
