National Rail has issued an amended timetable notice for Southeastern services between London and Kent, effective 20-24 July. Track maintenance across multiple locations will close several lines after 23:25 each night, forcing diversions and replacement buses on routes serving Dover Priory, Canterbury West and Ramsgate. The 23:40 London Cannon Street to Dover service on Monday and the 23:34 Charing Cross departures mid-week are among those affected, while Ramsgate-bound trains will terminate early with onward bus connections. For cross-Channel passengers heading to late ferries or early Le Shuttle departures, the changes could add more than an hour to journey times and risk missed check-in windows. Business travellers with tight morning–meeting schedules in continental Europe may need to overnight in Dover or travel earlier. Logistics operators warn that coach companies running through-tickets from London to Calais will need to adjust departure waves. Travel management companies (TMCs) have been advised to push real-time alerts via apps and SMS, reminding travellers to verify final connections in the National Rail Journey Planner. The engineering works coincide with peak holiday traffic and ongoing concerns over potential congestion at the Port of Dover when the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric checks go live in October. Port authorities welcomed the rail-industry’s early notice, noting that predictable rail arrivals help smooth passenger flow in the ferry terminal. Southeastern says the maintenance is essential to prepare infrastructure for additional rolling-stock due next year and to improve resilience ahead of EES. Full service is expected to resume by the morning peak on Friday 24 July.
