The Lufthansa Group has announced that “Hangar One”, its new 6,000 m² visitor and conference centre on the southern apron of Frankfurt Airport, will open to the general public on 1 August. A soft-launch for corporate clients took place earlier this month; from next week the facility will be open Thursdays through Saturdays, with adult tickets priced at €8. Part aerospace museum, part brand showcase and part MICE venue, Hangar One houses two painstakingly restored landmark aircraft: the Junkers Ju 52 D-AQUI and the Lockheed Super Star D-ALAN. Seven high-spec meeting rooms overlooking the flight line can accommodate up to 400 delegates—an offering Lufthansa says will “raise Frankfurt’s profile as a global hub for aviation conferences and incentive travel.” For mobility teams, the centre offers an unusual onboarding perk: new international hires can combine arrival briefing sessions with an immersive history tour and even a flight-simulator experience. Lufthansa will also stream its centenary documentary “We are the Journey” inflight from September, a reminder of the carrier’s push to strengthen brand loyalty among frequent flyers. Event planners should note that the venue sits landside, so no boarding pass is required; however, security screening applies and parking at Building 367 is limited. The airline is encouraging delegates to take the inter-terminal Skyline people-mover and follow dedicated way-finding to the hangar. While the opening is not a policy story, it underscores Germany’s strategy of leveraging aviation assets for business tourism—a sector that the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs counts among the country’s fastest-recovering export earners post-pandemic.
