Singapore Airlines (SIA) and its low-cost subsidiary Scoot scrapped or rescheduled multiple services to Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen over 25–26 July as Typhoon Hongxia forced air-traffic flow restrictions across southern China. The carriers told passengers to rebook without fees and cautioned that further delays may occur while slot allocations are re-sequenced. Key affected flights included SQ856/871 (Singapore–Hong Kong), TR100 (Singapore–Guangzhou) and TR992 (Singapore–Shenzhen), some of which experienced turn-backs to Changi when weather minima deteriorated mid-flight. Corporate travel managers with Asia-Pacific duty-of-care responsibilities should update risk alerts: under SIA’s revised waiver policy, tickets issued on or before 24 July for travel up to 29 July can be held as flight credits for 12 months. Forward-looking capacity could tighten. Slot rescheduling may reduce available seats during the busy first-week-of-August travel peak—when many mainland executives fly to Singapore ahead of earnings roadshows—so companies should secure alternative routings via Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur if itineraries are inflexible. SIA said it remains committed to its current twice-daily Hong Kong schedule and will add larger Airbus A350-900 aircraft on relief sectors once weather clears, minimising long-term disruption.
