Norway travel advice refreshed: German tourists warned of new import limits and ETIAS roll-out
On 26 July 2026 the Auswärtiges Amt refreshed its Norway advisory, principally to reflect new Norwegian Customs limits on meat and dairy imports and to remind travellers that the EU’s ETIAS pre-travel authorisation will become mandatory for non-EU nationals transiting through Oslo from October. Although German citizens will remain exempt, mixed-nationality families need to ensure third-country members apply online before departure. The update also mentions localised flooding in western fjord regions, which has led to temporary closures of the E16 road between Bergen and Flåm—information vital for self-drive tourists and coach operators. Fjord cruise lines calling at Hamburg report an uptick in customer queries; mobility managers organising incentive trips should verify coach availability and build slack into shore-excursion schedules. The advisory reiterates Norway’s strict drink-driving limits and notes that German holders of the forthcoming digital driving licence (Führerschein-App) must still carry the physical card until bilateral recognition agreements are signed. Employers sending staff on short-term technical assignments should be aware that work in Norway’s offshore sector continues to require a residence card even for EU nationals and that processing windows can be longer during the summer holiday season.
