As firefighting operations intensified on Monday evening, Cyprus Police issued an urgent bulletin at 17:47 instructing motorists to avoid the Kalo Chorio–Agia Anna–Psevdas corridor in Larnaca district. Officers closed the affected stretch entirely to allow tanker trucks and emergency vehicles unimpeded access to water refilling points and staging areas. The police communications branch said any civilian presence on the narrow rural road network could endanger both residents and first responders, given the limited turning space for 4x4 fire engines. Alternative routes via Alaminos and Mosfiloti remain open, although drivers should expect congestion during the evening commute. Businesses operating just outside the exclusion zone—particularly poultry farms and packing warehouses—were advised to issue temporary work-from-home guidance until the fire perimeter is secured. Delivery companies have begun consolidating loads to minimise multiple trips through secondary lanes. The bulletin is part of a broader push by the authorities to reduce so-called “fire tourism”—spectators who drive close to active blazes and hamper emergency access. Under the 2025 Civil Protection Law, ignoring a police fire-area closure can attract on-the-spot fines of up to €300 and vehicle seizure in extreme cases.
