The Interior Ministry is under pressure to accelerate the new fast-track asylum procedures introduced by the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, which requires decisions within 12 weeks for manifestly unfounded claims. Business groups worry that prolonged reception bottlenecks could delay the allocation of work-quota slots under the 2026 Decreto Flussi, scheduled to open in September. Companies relying on seasonal agricultural labour in Sicily and Calabria should anticipate possible shortages and explore intra-EU postings or temporary agency arrangements. HR teams sponsoring third-country nationals should also monitor biometric-capture appointments, as police resources will be stretched.
