Fintraffic Air Navigation Services issued AIP Supplement 112/2026 late on 27 July creating Restricted Area EFR659 over large parts of Central Finland for the annual World Rally Championship event in Jyväskylä. The airspace will be active from 0600 UTC on 30 July until 1600 UTC on 2 August and extends from the surface to Flight Level 095. The restriction covers the city of Jyväskylä, the nearby service park at Paviljonki, and multiple rural special stages where helicopters, drones and fixed-wing aircraft are often used by media, emergency services and corporate hospitality providers. Only state aircraft, police, medical evacuation flights and aircraft with prior written permission from the event’s air-operations coordinator may enter. Violators risk interception and administrative fines. Business-aviation operators bringing VIP guests to Jyväskylä (EFJY) or Tikkakoski (EFJY’s military side) must file routes that remain outside EFR659 or secure a slot via the rally organiser no later than 1200 UTC the day before flight. Finnair’s scheduled ATR service between Helsinki and Jyväskylä is unaffected because the published SID and STAR procedures skirt the zone laterally. Corporations planning incentive trips or media activities should note that commercial drone use for filming is prohibited unless coordinated with the rally’s safety director and the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom). Ground transport and hotel capacity in Jyväskylä is already stretched, so last-minute itinerary changes could cascade into costly delays.
