Although the most recent cancellations occurred six weeks ago, the publication date confirms that labour tension remains headline news as mediator-led negotiations drag on. Unions want wage indexation in line with Finland’s double-digit inflation and guarantees on rostering; management argues its finances are still reeling from the closure of Russian airspace, which forces Finnair’s Asia flights to detour over the North Pole and burns extra fuel. For mobility professionals the takeaway is that Finnish industrial relations remain volatile heading into the peak August holiday season. Companies with rotational staff in the energy, mining and tech sectors – many of whom rely on Finnair’s Asian network – should maintain alternative routings via Stockholm, Copenhagen or Middle-Eastern hubs and avoid tight same-day connections through Helsinki.
