Small-craft wind warning issued for Irish coastal waters
Met Éireann has placed Status Yellow small-craft warnings on all coasts for 28 July as south-westerly winds are forecast to reach Force 6, occasionally higher in Atlantic swells. While no land-based warnings are in effect, the advisory covers the Irish Sea and approaches to major ports including Dublin, Cork, Rosslare and Shannon Foynes. The alert could translate into minor schedule changes for harbour pilotage and cause low-freeboard leisure vessels to remain in port. Commercial ferries and deep-draft cargo ships are expected to proceed but may reduce speed, lengthening passage times and tightening road-haulage delivery windows. For offshore wind-farm contractors and survey crews, the gustier conditions mean crew-transfer vessels might be restricted, potentially delaying critical path maintenance. Employers should review marine insurance clauses, as operating in Status Yellow can affect cover if risk-mitigation measures are ignored. From a passenger-mobility perspective, travellers prone to seasickness on shorter crossings such as Dublin–Holyhead or Cork–Roscoff should be warned of a more energetic sea state. Airlines generally remain unaffected, but turbulence is likely on low-altitude segments over coastal waters. The warning is valid until 23:00 local time, after which winds will veer westerly and ease. Met Éireann will issue fresh guidance at 18:00.
