Taiwan’s boutique long-haul carrier STARLUX Airlines touched down at Václav Havel Airport Prague on the morning of 3 August 2026, inaugurating the first ever non-stop service between the Czech capital and Taipei. The maiden Airbus A350-900 flight JX790 carried a delegation of Taiwanese officials, travel-trade representatives and Czech exporters who see the new route as a strategic bridge for trade, tourism and talent mobility between Central Europe and East Asia. For now the airline will operate three weekly rotations (Tuesday, Friday and Sunday), departing Prague at 12:40 and arriving in Taipei the following morning at 05:55. A fourth frequency is slated for October, when STARLUX plans to up-gauge the service to its eye-catching “AIRSORAYAMA” A350-1000 aircraft, featuring expanded First-Class suites. Thanks to the carrier’s extensive Asian network, Czech passengers will gain one-stop same-ticket connections to more than 25 onward destinations in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Australia, shaving 3–5 hours off typical transfer times via Frankfurt or Dubai. The launch comes as Czech exporters look to diversify away from slowing EU demand. Bilateral trade with Taiwan grew 17 % last year, led by Czech medical-device and semiconductor-equipment sales. Business chambers predict the direct cargo belly-capacity—up to 20 tonnes per flight—could cut door-to-door shipping times for high-value goods by two days. Meanwhile CzechInvest says the route will support inbound investment by making it easier for Taiwanese tech firms scouting Central-European expansion sites to conduct site visits and rotate specialized engineers on short-term assignments. From a mobility-compliance standpoint, travelers still need to observe Schengen exit formalities in Prague and meet Taiwan’s online e-Visa or visa-exempt requirements. Corporate travel managers are being advised to update traveler briefings to reflect Taipei’s new electronic Arrival Card (mandatory from 1 August 2026) and the UK-style liquids/CT-scanner security rules now in place at Prague’s Terminal 2. STARLUX has partnered with Prague Airport to offer fast-track immigration lanes for its Business and First passengers, a first for a non-EU airline at the Czech gateway. Travel industry analysts view the move as a vote of confidence in the post-pandemic recovery of Central European long-haul demand. With Korean Air and Vietnam Airlines both resuming services this summer, Prague Airport expects to surpass its pre-Covid record of 18 million passengers in 2026. If load factors exceed 75 %—the break-even level cited by STARLUX—the carrier has hinted at upgrading the route to daily service for the 2027 IATA summer season, further cementing Prague’s status as a regional hub for business and expatriate mobility.
