Visa-outsourcing firm TLScontact introduced a live-slot notification feature for its Beirut centre on 14 September, hoping to tame soaring demand for French short-stay visas. Screenshots circulating on expatriate Telegram groups show the first automated alert being pushed at 22:52 local time, advising applicants to log in within 15 minutes to secure a slot. Lebanon remains France’s third-largest Schengen-visa market per capita, fuelled by business links in construction, consulting and luxury retail. Yet appointment scarcity has worsened since July, with some travellers paying brokers up to €400 to book a date. The French Embassy, facing staff shortages, asked TLScontact to ‘prioritise genuine business and medical cases’, prompting the software upgrade. Corporate mobility managers with operations in Beirut should register key employees’ details in the new alert system and maintain flexible travel plans. Firms sponsoring multiple travellers can use TLScontact’s group-booking module, but must upload invitation letters and proof of accommodation for each applicant within 24 hours, or risk cancellation. French authorities say the tool may be replicated in other high-pressure locations such as Lagos and Algiers if it reduces no-show rates and curbs the black market for appointments.
