U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will open a weekly Global Entry enrollment operation at Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) beginning Oct. 8, local affiliate KOKH reported and Passport News summarized on Sept. 14. The initiative will allow pre-approved travelers to complete in-person interviews without driving to Dallas or Houston, the nearest enrollment centers currently serving Oklahoma residents. Global Entry provides expedited passport control at 77 U.S. and 14 overseas airports and includes TSA PreCheck eligibility. Adding an Oklahoma City site fills a geographic gap in CBP’s enrollment network, which has struggled with appointment backlogs exceeding six months in some regions. Business travelers based in the state’s growing aerospace and energy sectors should gain faster access to the program, easing international trips to supplier hubs in Canada, Mexico and Europe. CBP will staff the OKC office one day per week, initially handling applicants whose conditional approvals are already issued. Companies planning group enrollments should encourage employees to complete online applications now, as interview slots are expected to fill quickly. The $100 five-year membership fee remains unchanged. The expansion reflects CBP’s broader push to decentralize enrollment. Recent pop-up centers in Boise, Charleston and Des Moines cut wait times by 40 percent, according to agency data. Mobility managers should monitor similar announcements in secondary markets, which can reduce travel costs and downtime for assignees awaiting Global Entry clearance.
