Road Closure Near Prague Airport Adds 15-Minute Buffer for Travellers
Vaclav Havel Airport Prague has issued an urgent advisory reminding passengers that the main exit from the Kladno/Slaný direction is closed between 9 and 25 September due to construction linked to the expansion of the Terminal 1 border-control zone. The detour funnels traffic through a single-lane service road and has already resulted in peak-hour tailbacks of up to two kilometres. While flight schedules remain unaffected, the airport’s Red-Team coordinators recommend arriving at least 45 minutes earlier than usual, especially for long-haul departures where the new Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric registration can add several minutes at passport control. Ride-hailing companies have responded by imposing temporary congestion surcharges of 40–60 CZK per trip. The closure is part of a CZK 290 million project that will add five manned passport desks and four EasyGoGate e-gates by April 2027. Airport management says the works are scheduled overnight where possible, but the current phase involves heavy machinery directly adjacent to the access ramp, making daytime closure unavoidable. Corporate travel managers should update ground-transport instructions in meeting invitations and consider pre-booking parking P4, which lies outside the affected zone. Travellers connecting from regional buses at Terminal 1 should note that some routes have been temporarily rerouted to the Airport Cargo stop, adding a ten-minute walk. With trade fairs in Brno and a major UEFA qualifier in Prague this week, passenger volumes are expected to surge. The airport will publish live traffic updates on its X (formerly Twitter) account; mobility teams are advised to monitor feeds and proactively re-book tight connections.
