Hong Kong recorded 5.46 million visitor arrivals in August—its highest monthly total since the pandemic—representing a 6 percent year-on-year rise, the Tourism Board reported on 15 September. The surge was fuelled by a packed calendar of international conferences and mega-events, including the Hong Kong Football Festival, which drew fans from mainland China, Singapore and the UK. Long-haul traffic led growth, jumping 18 percent to almost 290,000 arrivals, while short-haul numbers dipped 4 percent amid flight-capacity constraints and high fuel surcharges. Cumulatively, 36.67 million travellers visited between January and August 2026—an 11 percent increase on the same period last year. The rebound is translating into stronger corporate-travel demand. Hotel chains report average daily rates up 12 percent quarter-on-quarter, and trade-fair organisers are adding additional exhibition halls for Q4 events. Yet capacity remains a bottleneck. Industry analysts warn that without faster airline seat recovery—now at roughly 82 percent of 2019 levels—Hong Kong risks ceding meetings-and-incentives traffic to Seoul and Singapore. Global mobility teams should plan early for accommodation and engage destination-services providers to secure short-term rentals during peak weeks such as the Autumn Electronics Fair in October.
