Cathay Pacific will upgrade its Hong Kong–Madrid route from four flights a week to a daily Airbus A350 service starting 25 October, the airline confirmed on 17 September. The move restores capacity on one of its key Europe links to 2019 levels and provides Spain-bound corporate travellers with much-needed schedule flexibility. Outbound flights will depart Hong Kong at 00:40 or 12:40 depending on the day, while inbound legs leave Madrid late evening or late morning, offering same-day connections to Latin America via oneworld partners. Travel-management companies say demand has rebounded sharply among fashion retailers and renewables firms with design centres in Barcelona and procurement teams in Hong Kong. The frequency boost coincides with Spain’s chairmanship of the EU Council, which is expected to spur trade missions to Asia. For Hong Kong International Airport, the additional movements support the government’s target of exceeding 80 percent of pre-pandemic passenger volumes by year-end. Economists note that expanded long-haul lift also enhances Hong Kong’s role as a transit hub for Mainland Chinese travellers now that multi-entry permits via the Greater Bay Area are easier to obtain. Introductory promotional fares have already been loaded in GDS, signalling confidence in sustained demand.
