The concessionaire EcoRodovias announced at 04:14 h on 18 September that the Imigrantes highway, the main arterial connecting São Paulo to the Port of Santos, was operating in a ‘5×2’ lane configuration with a full northbound (uphill) closure between km 62 and km 40 to allow passage of an oversize load. While the restriction is scheduled to last only a few hours, past closures on this stretch have produced tailbacks exceeding 10 km and delayed container deliveries to Latin America’s largest container terminal. Shuttle services that transport expatriate staff to coastal industrial sites were advised to divert via the Anchieta highway, which remains open but is prone to fog and steep grades. EcoRodovias said real-time updates would be posted on its X (Twitter) feed and recommended that drivers heading from the coast to São Paulo avoid peak afternoon hours. The company added that weather was overcast but not severe, reducing the likelihood that the operation will be extended. Global assignment managers with crews embarking on offshore platforms or cruise vessels in Santos should build extra buffer time into road transfers and monitor freight forwarder alerts, especially for temperature-controlled cargo with strict arrival windows.
