Antiracist coalition rallies in Madrid against ‘repression’ of Ceuta migrants
A network of antiracist organisations has called a noon demonstration in Madrid’s Puerta del Sol on 19 September under the slogan “Ni instrumentalización ni represión – Basta de violencia racista y colonial”. The protest aims to highlight alleged abuses during police operations in Ceuta and Melilla and to demand an independent international investigation. Organisers plan to hold a memorial for the more than 100 migrants who, according to NGO estimates, have died attempting to reach Spanish territory in 2026. They also want the government to halt so-called “hot returns” and to guarantee legal entry routes. Large companies with Saturday shifts in central Madrid should anticipate crowd-related disruption around Sol and adjacent Metro lines. The demonstration could feed broader public debate as Parliament considers reforms to the Ley de Extranjería. The event follows growing civil-society activism across Spain since July’s Ceuta crossing, with labour unions and student groups increasingly linking migration issues to broader human-rights agendas.
